Last Chance to Early Vote

Today is the last day to early vote! Otherwise, you will have to find your neighborhood polling location and vote on Tuesday, November 8.

Many people like to vote on Election Day. It is sort of a celebration for them. Still, you never know what may happen. Someone comes along and drops a last minute project in your lap and you cannot leave in time or your kid gets sick and you race home to take care of him/her.

Ten Texas Constitutional Amendments, 16 members of the Houston City Council, the Controller, the Mayor, HISD Board seats and other area school districts, and Houston Community College Board seats. All fairly serious taxing entities and the Amendments have financial implications.

So far, the voter turnout is abysmal. Few Houstonians are taking the time to cast ballots.

I know I’m a bit of a broken record on this point, but come on folks, democracy requires participation. If you want to live in a democracy, you have to do your part. If you don’t, the 1% really will be speaking for the 99%. Or in the case of Houston, about 10 – 12% will be speaking for the 1million+.

Take a few minutes to cast your ballot today. If not, put stars all over your calendar for Tuesday, November 8. Vote first thing that morning so nothing impedes your attempt to get there.

I’ll share with you one of my favorite quotes, “The ship of democracy will ultimately sink by the mutiny of those on board.” Grover Cleveland.

VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I have voted. But I agree that some of the joy of living in America is going to the polls on election day. (I was born on an election day–it’s in my blood.) No matter that I voted early, I’ll still be part of the election day celebration–i’m an election clerk and I’ll get to watch all day. I hope I’m busy every minute.
