Mayor Parker Sailing to Victory?

The Parker campaign issued a major announcement yesterday. However, I received notice even before the “official” announcement arrived.

Long time Parker campaign manager and confidant, Adam Harris, has departed the campaign to launch his own political consulting practice with his brilliant fiancé, Mary Bell. Together, they have formed Horizon Strategies.

Adam stated in his own announcement, “Annise Parker’s campaign is going great and I am moving on!” He further commented about the campaign, “Given her strong and almost inevitable position, I’ve decided to finally take this moment to pursue a long held dream for me.”

Shortly thereafter, the official announcement arrived from the campaign. The announcement focused specifically on Ward Curtin who has been named the new Campaign Manager. Ward is a very talented young man who organized the grass-roots base in the 2009 election. As all political observers know, it was Parker’s extraordinary grass-roots strength that helped bolster her to victory.

It seems apparent to me that positioning Ward as Campaign Manager, the Mayor still fully intends to run a grass-roots effort and keep her organization strong. It doesn’t sound as though she is taking the campaign for granted. Ward is one heck of an organizer and will deploy an army of Parker volunteers to ensure victory.

The last sentence of the Mayor’s press release simply stated, “Adam Harris is leaving the campaign effective today. The campaign wishes him well in his future endeavors.”

This statement gives the illusion that the parting may not have been as cordial as the original Harris email indicated.

Rumors are abounding and the gossips are all abuzz over the internal “campaign shake-up.”

However, this pundit assures you that though there is a deeper story, all parties will most likely come out better for the transition.

Mayor Parker has a dedicated leadership team of both paid and business supporters. They will protect her and guarantee she succeeds. She has some of the most talented consultants in the business on board and a set of true believers on her Finance team.

Adam Harris will step into the political consulting field and will likely do just fine. There are definitely not enough consultants for the vast field of candidates seeking public office.

Best wishes to Ward Curtin, the Parker Team and Adam and Mary.
